Darkness

Lately I find it a real struggle to get out of bed every morning.

Most days I just want to stay in bed all day every day.

I am hoping that this darkness will lift soon.

I'm sorry to hear that things are not going well for you. Life can be tough at times. Sounds like this is one of those times.

Hang in there! Sorry, I don't have any new magic words for you. And I think you have heard all the old ones.

Dear,
You sound like you have serious depression. You have to either get help quickly or just start praying and asking God to come and save you.

Do you have any family or friends you can call? Is there a free phone call to a depression hotline you can call just so you can talk to someone?

You are NOT alone. It is just not happening to only you. All of us are in this mess together. I understand what you mean about not getting out of bed. I've been there. What helped me was praying ALOT (I didn't feel alone as long as I had God to talk to) and I had to just force myself to get out of that bed. I would do the mundane things like make the bed, vacumn the floor, wash the dishes, do the laundry....easy stuff. Just brushing my teeth and combing my hair was a miracle.
But these little things helped.
I also kept a journal and wrote everything out. Try it. It does help.
If you want to send me an email...do!

You are not alone.

Just take it day by day.

Just get through the day.

Jerry and Morrison thank you for your kind words.

Morrison no close family ties or friends which I think maybe is the root of the problem a lot of the time. I'm going through the motions as you say, my body is present but my spirit is not. But I'm making plans and trying to create a life that I want rather than just coping with life. It does help to write things down as you say.

I think a lot of people can really relate. Can you find something you like doing before work? I like to walk & swim so I try and do that in the am. I also find if I walk in the evenings it is easier to get up in the morning.

best wishes.

Hi Dreamer,

I too have had bouts of depression. I have only once been to the doctor about it which is in my opinion a waste of time unless you want free SSRI drugs. I did find 6 weeks of private counselling helped a lot though - I still get depressed but can see it coming now and have strategies to cope with it - happy to discuss should you wish!

I would also really recommend a book called "Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Dummies" which teaches great strategies if you fancy trying some self-service therapy!
